YMCA Early Learners Celebrate Literacy Day With Malcolm Mitchell at the State Capitol

Earlier this month, students from the Georgia Pre-K program at the Y’s Dean Rusk Early Learning Center had the opportunity to meet and read with Governor Brian Kemp, legendary University of Georgia coach Vince Dooley and NFL wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell at the Georgia State Capitol.

Mitchell also partners with the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA through Read with Malcolm, a youth literacy initiative designed to transform the lives of young students through literacy.

Mitchell’s book “The Magician’s Hat” was written to help all children discover a love for reading.

In partnership with Read with Malcolm, during a recent Reading Rally at the Y, students received free copies of “The Magician’s Hat,” and the Super Bowl champ visited and read to them, sharing his own love for reading.

Read with Malcolm was founded in 2015. The organization’s goals are to introduce book ownership and improve grade-level reading skills. By providing copies of “The Magician’s Hat” to young students and hosting Reading Rallies with Mitchell himself, Read with Malcolm inspires young readers and gives them an age-appropriate book that they can read at home and use to develop reading skills critical for future success.

The Y is proud to partner with Read with Malcolm to bring this opportunity to our students.
