The Villages at Carver Family YMCA recently completed a gymnasium renovation, after being selected by community sponsors seeking to invest in the local basketball community. Corporate sponsors included the Atlanta Tipoff Club (administrators of the Naismith Trophy), Invesco US, and DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation.
On Wednesday, August 24, 2021, the Atlanta Tipoff Club officially dedicated the newly renovated gymnasium and immediately put the refurbished court to work. Following the ceremony, a youth basketball clinic was held by Atlanta Hawks members and local high school basketball coaches.
The Villages at Carver Family YMCA was selected for the service it provides to the surrounding community. Every year, more than 800 children and adults come to the Villages at Carver Family YMCA to play basketball. Approximately 80 percent of members at the Villages at Carver Family YMCA receive some form of financial assistance, including 90 percent of the children who play basketball there.
Each week, the Villages at Carver Family YMCA partners with Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide groceries to more than 100 families. Twice a month, they provide free, fresh produce to senior residents in the community.
“We are deeply honored that the Atlanta Tipoff Club has chosen to partner with us,” said Lauren Koontz, YMCA of Metro Atlanta President & CEO. “This gym will be where our young athletes learn the game of basketball, build confidence and embrace sportsmanship. We are grateful to the Atlanta Tipoff Club and the corporate partners who are making this happen for the children we serve in our community.”
The renovation has provided:
6 Breakaways rims
6 Ball racks
Floor deep clean
New curtain divider
We are so thankful to the Atlanta Tipoff Club, DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation and Invesco for helping us better serve kids and families in our community!
