Seven YMCA locations to open May 15 with additional locations opening May 27 and June 1

We are pleased to announce that we are taking steps to safely reopen our facilities through a phased approach beginning Friday, May 15, 2020. As we prepare to welcome you back, please be assured that the health and safety of our Y members, staff and community is our top priority. We are following the guidance of CDC and local health officials regarding all safety protocols. All openings are subject to any regulatory changes and public health directives. Listed below are just a few of the ways that we are preparing for your safe return:

Designated Entry/Exit: To help us maintain safety protocols, we will maintain designated entry/exit points at all YMCA locations.

Facilities Designed for Social Distance: All areas reopening inside the Y have been evaluated and redesigned to help ensure social distancing between members. Branches will welcome back approximately 25% of the building capacity at any one time, with a one-hour limit on each member visit.

Signage: Signage has been prominently placed throughout Y facilities to ensure social distancing and to promote hand washing and use of available hand sanitizer.

Cleaning: In addition to nightly deep cleans, custodial staff will be on site all day for ongoing cleanings. All staff will be continuously wiping down common spaces, and members will be asked to wipe off all equipment used.

Regular Temperature Checks: Both staff and members will receive temperature checks before entering Y facilities.

PPE for Staff and Members: Staff will be required to wear masks and other personal protective equipment in most areas while members will be required to wear masks into the facility and while in common areas.

Self-Scan Check-in: Members will be asked to self-scan their membership card/app to ensure a touchless entry process.

We’re taking a methodical, phased and regional approach, reopening Y branches in three waves. This reopen strategy is designed so members have the opportunity to visit a Y that is reasonably close to them as we work to reopen all of our Y facilities. Some branches may reopen with youth-based programs prior to their scheduled reopen date for member services. As a benefit of being a Y member, you have access to all Y branches and may use any branch of your choosing during the phased reopen.

*On Friday, May 15, only the wellness space of the Ys in Wave I will reopen. On Monday, May 18, lap swim, group exercise and tennis (at select facilities) will reopen by online reservation.

We each play an important role in helping to ensure the health and safety of our Y community. In the days ahead, we will share more information about the safety protocols and guidelines being implemented in our facilities. Prior to branch openings, we will provide you with a video that will demonstrate how you can prepare for your visit to the Y. The way we will interact with each other will be different, but what will not change is your ability to connect with others, improve your wellness and support your community – just by being a Y member.

Thank you for sticking with the Y during this challenging time. As a result of you being a member, the Y has been able to meet critical needs in our communities in response to COVID-19. With your support, we have mobilized our network, facilities, and partners to launch three specific initiatives that have been crucial during this pandemic: emergency childcare support for healthcare workers, first responders and those on the frontlines of COVID-19; expanded hunger relief programs across the metro area; and launched Operation REACH to support older adults and members in high risk groups.

You have been here for your community, and we are here for you. We are so happy to safely welcome you back to the Y.
