What I Hear When You Say…
PBS has started a video series called “What I Hear When You Say” that looks at how words can be a uniting and dividing factor depending on our perspectives, experiences, and interpretations. They have episodes that cover different phrases or terms that makes us re-evaluate how we think about race, class, gender, and identity. The series aims to create a greater connection among people by shedding light on these difficult topics. Listen to this episode focused on examining what it means to appreciate and appropriate culture.
“Cultural Appropriation is like taking a test and getting an “A.” And then someone else copies off your test and gets an “A” plus extra credit.” – Franchesca Ramsey, Comedian & YouTube Personality
