Through the USDA Child Adult & Care Food Program, the Y has eight locations offering food distribution for ALL families that have children 18 years old and under.

YMCA Backpack Program – For YMCA Afterschool & Early Learning Families 

Through a partnership with Publix Super Markets Charities and the Atlanta Falcons Foundation, backpacks of weekend food for YMCA afterschool and early learning families will be distributed at nine sites, with more sites being added soon. These sites are also participating in the USDA program above during the same hours.

The Y has set up four food distribution sites for families of YMCA early learning/Head Start programs only. Additional sites in Greene County and Morgan County will open on Monday.

Additional YMCA Hunger Relief Efforts 

Westside Assistance 

Working with partners, next week the Y will begin serving as a packing location to prepare food bags that will be delivered to 250 seniors and their families living in the 30314 zip code, one of Atlanta’s most in-need communities. 

Partnership with Atlanta Community Food Bank 

The YMCA hosts mobile food pantries from a variety of Y branches on a monthly basis. The week of April 13, East Lake Family YMCA received 10,000+ pounds of food and distributed bags of food to 350 residents. The week of April 20 the Andrew & Walter Young YMCA hosted a community-centered mobile food pantry where more than 6,800 pounds of food were delivered. The next mobile food pantry will serve residents living in the 30314 and 30318 zip codes the week of May 18. Northeast Cobb YMCA & Marietta School District / Marietta City Schools Partnership 

Each week the Northeast Y Cobb is a delivery site for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Every Wednesday 20 pallets of food (20,000 lbs.) are delivered where Y staff assemble 500+ bags for families. The Marietta City School System distributes 300 of the bags to school district families with their lunch and the remainder are distributed to families in need throughout the city of Marietta and Cobb County. 

Cobb YMCA & Mt. Paran North Church Partnership 

Cobb YMCAs receive donations through Mt. Paran North Church along with online donations. YMCA staff assemble food bags for families experiencing food insecurity throughout Cobb County. Some of the locations include:

Cowart Family YMCA & City of Brookhaven Partnership 

The Cowart Family YMCA, in partnership with the City of Brookhaven, receives food each week from the Atlanta Community Food Bank and distribute approximately 250 backpacks each week from Briarwood Recreation Center and Dresden Park. 

Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation & Empire State South Partnership  

Funded and supported by the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, chef Hugh Acheson with Empire State South, cooks and prepares 500 meals each week that are delivered to families living near and around the East Lake Family YMCA and the Andrew and the Walter Young Family YMCA. 

Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project 

The Northwest Family and Northeast Family YMCAs in Cobb County are proud to be partnering with the Atlanta Braves on its Home Plate Project. Over the next six weeks Led by Chef Pete Smithing, the kitchens at Truist Park will prepare and create 4,000-6,000 meals each week to partner agencies, including the Y which will distribute the meals to individuals and families in need within our community. 

Operation Meal Plan: Cobb YMCAs in partnership with the Cobb Chamber & Cobb Community Foundation 

Developed by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Cobb Community Foundation the Cobb YMCAs are participating in Operation Meal Plan. Designed to provide food to those in need, Cobb restaurants keep their workers employed and provide a way for citizens to help. Through this partnership, the Northeast Family YMCA distributes meals to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  

Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead — Afterschool Enrichment (ASE) Program 

During the school year, the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead implements an afterschool enrichment program for K-5th grade students at three schools located on the Westside of Atlanta: Boyd Elementary, Bolton Elementary & Scott Elementary. As soon as schools closed due to the COVID19 pandemic, the YMCA leapt into action, delivering a dinner and a snack each weekday to the ASE participants’ homes. In partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, YMCA staff also pack and deliver backpacks of food, each week to all ASE families.
