The YMCA of Metro Atlanta will open a storefront at the Junior Achievement (JA) Chick-fil-A Foundation Discovery Center in Atlanta. The Y and JA held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 9 to celebrate the opening and the organizations’ partnership. As the largest childcare provider in the state of Georgia, the Y will have the opportunity to reach aspiring business leaders through the collaboration and showcase its Early Learning and After School programs within the storefront.

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta announced on Feb. 25 that it has expanded its partnership with Atlanta United of Major League Soccer as a Soccer Development Partner. Atlanta United’s Soccer Development Partner Program creates a collaborative relationship to foster the development of the elite level player in Georgia.

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is excited to debut esports programming in partnership with esports solution provider Skillshot Media and professional esports team Ghost Gaming. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta esports program will kick off this April and May with youth and teen tournaments in Rocket League. Rocket League was chosen as the initial game because the content is appropriate for all ages, it’s free and accessible across multiple hardware platforms and includes elements of teamwork and cooperation in gameplay. Registration for spring tournaments is open for YMCA members and nonmembers who are ages 8 to 18-years-old.

Our Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA was generously provided new floor coverings in the Teen Room and Hank Aaron Room in October. The floor coverings were the result of a sustainability commitment of Interface — a global leader in modular flooring. Check out the photos of the recent legacy projects at the Young YMCA. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta, City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, The American Red Cross and WABE announced the development of the Atlanta Water Safety Coalition. The coalition is focused on age-based strategies and creating opportunities for greater access to swim and water safety lessons for youth and teens. Currently, the highest rates of drowning occur with children ages 1-4 and boys ages 15-19, with children of color at higher risk.

Lenox Square and YMCA of Metro Atlanta Partner to Host Winter Clothing Drive for Local Community ATLANTA- Lenox Square and YMCA of Metro Atlanta are hosting a winter clothing drive to benefit underserved communities in Atlanta throughout the month of January. Shoppers can donate new and gently used children’s and adult winter outerwear, including coats, jackets, raincoats, hats, gloves, earmuffs and scarves, in the Mall Management Office located on the Market Level near the Dining Pavilion, now through Jan. 31.

The Villages at Carver YMCA Teams Up with the Atlanta Braves Foundation to Host Food Drive The Villages at Carver Family Y recently teamed up with the Atlanta Braves Foundation, Chick-fil-A, C.H.O.I.C.E.S. for Kids, MUST Ministries, Urban Recipe, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank to giveaway 300 boxes of fresh produce and Chick-fil-A sandwiches to the surrounding community.

Mercedes-Benz USA and Safe Kids Worldwide Launch Clifford Takes a Ride and Kick Off National Book and Safety Tour Atlanta. Thursday, July 18, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) and Safe Kids Worldwide, one of its national nonprofit partners, launched a new children’s book, Clifford Takes a Ride, in collaboration with Scholastic. The book follows the journey of Clifford the Big Red Dog and gives readers essential tips to stay safe in and around vehicles. MBUSA and Safe Kids Worldwide will distribute 30,000 free copies of the book to families across the country through Mercedes-Benz dealerships and Safe Kids Worldwide coalitions. This book and safety tour is part of MBUSA’s corporate social responsibility initiative, Driving Your Future, which aims to empower the next generation.

The Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA After School Enrichment Program: 20 Years of Community Impact The After School Enrichment (ASE) program at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly 20 years. Created by our community, for our community, this program embodies the mission and values of the Y. Fully funded to eliminate cost barriers, the ASE program ensures that children receive enriching after-school care. Each evening, students enjoy a full meal before being safely transported home via our dedicated bus service.
