![]() | Councilmember Joyce Sheperd ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The Villages at Carver Family YMCA is recognizing Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce M. Sheperd as its 2010 volunteer of the year. Sheperd will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Sheperd first became involved with the Y during the planning and development phase of the Carver Y. Currently, she is serving her fifth year as a Y volunteer. She acts as an advisory board member and finance and program committee member. “Joyce keeps the Y in the loop with community happenings and gets local neighbors and businesses involved with the Y and the community,” says Monteil Weeks, executive director for the Carver Y. “She has a knack for getting others to gather around in support of community needs that were identified by those living along the Pryor Road corridor.” In addition to her Y volunteer work, Sheperd is widely involved in the community. She is chair of the Community Development Human Resource Committee, vice chair of Atlanta Development Authority and a board member of the Atlanta Beltline. She also is involved with the Capitol View Community Garden, National Night Out in city of Atlanta District 12, and a sponsor for After Five Summer Youth Camp. Sheperd resides in Atlanta. She has one child and two grandchildren. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
