ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA is recognizing David Owens as its 2010 volunteer of the year. Owens will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Owens has been involved with the Y since he was a child. While growing up in Indianapolis, he participated in Y sports, swimming and Indian Guides. Currently, Owens is serving his third year as a Y volunteer. He is involved in the Junior Leaders Club and is an active leader in the Mission: Atlanta program. These groups provide opportunities for young adults to develop leadership skills through volunteering. In addition to his Y volunteer work, Owens teaches for Fulton County schools. He also has volunteered with Boy Scouts and Y Indian Guides. He resides in Alpharetta and has one son. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
