ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The Decatur Family YMCA is recognizing Bill Markert as its 2010 volunteer of the year. Markert will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Markert first became involved with the Y as a child, and is now in his 12th year of Y volunteer work. Currently, he serves on the Y board and finance committee. He also raises funds for the Partner With Youth annual campaign. Partner With Youth provides an opportunity for children, adults and families to participate in Y programs if they cannot afford the full cost. In addition to his Y volunteer work, Markert actively serves his community through the Optimist Club, Decatur First Methodist Church, LaGrange College, and the Decatur Housing Authority. Markert and his wife, Emilie, reside in Decatur, and have two children and four grandchildren. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
