ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA and the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA are recognizing “Hooky” Huffman as their 2010 volunteer of the year. Huffman will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Huffman has been involved with the Y since he was a child. While growing up in Buckhead, he played Y sports and attended camp, where he eventually worked as a camp leader. Currently, he is serving his third year on the branch board of managers, is a member of the marketing and membership committee and participates as an active Y member. In 2009 he led the effort to partner with the Cherokee County Rotary Club to sponsor the 5k Fall Classic. He is responsible for the same event this year. In addition to his Y volunteer work, Huffman’s community involvement includes positions on the board of directors for the Cherokee County Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church of Canton and on the City of Canton zoning variance committee. Huffman and his wife reside in Canton. They have two children and six grandchildren. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
