ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The Forsyth County Family YMCA is recognizing John Hoover as its 2010 volunteer of the year. Hoover will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Hoover has been involved with the Y since he was a child. While growing up in Pennsylvania, he took his first swimming lesson at the Altoona Y. Currently, Hoover serves on the board of directors for the Forsyth Y and was chairman for the first Forsyth Y golf tournament, benefiting the Partner With Youth annual campaign. Partner With Youth provides an opportunity for children, adults and families to participate in Y programs if they cannot afford the full cost. In addition to his Y volunteer work, Hoover always has been an active member of his community, serving on many advisory boards and committees. He and his wife reside in Cumming. They have two children and two grandchildren. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
