ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The Covington Family YMCA is recognizing Gregg Ellwanger as its 2010 volunteer of the year. Ellwanger will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Ellwanger took his first swimming lessons at the Y and was on the Y swim team as a child. He began volunteering with the Y in 2005 when he started the Covington Y’s swim team. Beginning with only eight members, the program now involves 95 participants and is the only swim team in Newton County. “Gregg has great leadership skills and expertise in swimming,” says Louly Hay-Kapp, of the Covington Y. “He knows what great opportunities can come through discipline and hard work and recognizes potential in every child, supporting each one equally.” In addition to his Y volunteer work, Ellwanger is a physical therapist at Rockdale Medical Center and an athletic trainer for various sports teams. He and his wife live in Newborn, and have three sons. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
