ATLANTA (September 27, 2010) The McCleskey-East Cobb and the Northeast Cobb YMCAs are recognizing Gus Carpio as their 2010 volunteer of the year. Carpio will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta annual volunteer recognition dinner Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Carpio has been involved with the Y since he was a child. While growing up in California, he and his brothers participated in a variety of Y sports. Currently, Carpio is serving his sixth year as a Y volunteer, coaching multiple soccer teams. He is the coordinator of a soccer clinic for children with special needs, a program he launched three years ago. The clinic includes families throughout the Atlanta area and works to involve players, parents and volunteers in sport and social interaction. In addition to his Y volunteer work, Carpio is a pilot for Delta Air Lines and is involved with First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. He and his wife reside in Marietta and have three children. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn grow and connect. |
