Volunteer in a YMCA Program Current program volunteer opportunities Youth Volunteers: There are many opportunities for young people to volunteer at our branches. In addition to service-learning projects, students may be able to volunteer at the front desk, as lifeguards, tutoring, day camp or in many other capacities. Check with your local branch to find out how to get involved. Aquatics Volunteers: Teach swim lessons; volunteer as a lifeguard; serve as a swim instructor aide; coach masters or youth swim teams; or participate in other aquatics activities and events. Coaches & Officials: Coach or referee in our youth sports programs. Various branches offer basketball, soccer, baseball, karate, gymnastics, horseback riding, lacrosse and many other fitness and sports activities for kids. Guest Speakers & Workshop Presenters: Share your life and career experience with a group of young people exploring their interests with programs like the Teen Leaders Club, Brother-to-Brother, Sister-to-Sister and Black Achievers or with adults participating in adult training courses to ready themselves to enter the workplace. Health & Fitness Volunteers: Serve as group exercise instructors ; help new members prepare for classes; assist members with cardiovascular or strength training equipment by being a workout buddy; serve as a wellness coach to other members. International Host Volunteers: Several branches have camps that organize exchanges with young people from around the world. Volunteer host families provide sleeping space, most meals, and some transportation for international camp counselors. Hosts also share information about home life in America and encourage guests to practice conversational English. Member Services: Provide information and answer member questions at the front desk or courtesy desk. Mentors & Tutors: Be a positive adult role model for young people by serving as a mentor or tutor in a program such as Black Achievers, Teen Leaders Club and other teen programs. We actively seek caring adults to get involved with young people. Service-Learning Opportunities: Service-learning is a process that involves identifying learning objectives, participating in meaningful service, and reflecting on the entire experience. Students have many opportunities to participate in service-learning opportunities at our YMCA branches. College students may also work with local branches to create unique service-learning opportunities to fit individual interests. Teen Leadership Volunteers: Serve as a positive role model to youth by working with a group of middle or high school students in one of our teen leadership programs such as Black Achievers or Leaders Clubs.
