Programs

Child Care — YMCA child care provides licensed quality care for children and is the largest provider of licensed child care in Atlanta and in the United States.  YMCA child care programs deliver a stimulating learning experience in a safe, secure environment, and they foster growth and development in children as well as in their parents and families.

  • After-school care
  • Parents’ Night Out

Sports & Recreation for Youth and Adults — Regardless of the sport or skill level, the focus is on the full and equal participation of all.  The goal is for every child to play in every game.  Win or lose, kids learn about self improvement, fitness, safety, sportsmanship, cooperation, self-esteem, and respect for others in a fun, learning environment.  All coaches are volunteers.  Parents are encouraged to assist in practices and games to promote the parent-child relationship.

Aquatics — YMCA aquatics programs promote good health through regular exercise.  In addition to providing specific swimming and water safety skills, they promote self-confidence and teamwork.

  • Learn-to-swim classes
  • Swim team
  • Lap swimming
  • Open, recreational swim

Also available: water group exercise, pool parties, private swim lessons, swim instructor and lifeguard training.

Family ProgramsYouth  & Teen   — Family programs help people grow as responsible family members. They provide children and their parents with activities that foster understanding, companionship and support.  Teen programs give kids good role models to help them develop cooperation, leadership, respect for the body, good citizenship, and strong character values.  Come to teen night with fun, challenging activities and access to all recreation areas in a supervised environment.  Leaders clubs are designed to involve young adults in the YMCA.  As part of a volunteer service club, participants are active in a variety of training programs, fundraising events, trips and outings, rallies, and special events.  Other activities include:

Holiday day camps
Parents' Night Out
Birthday parties

Community Services
— These programs are a mix of social and human service programs designed to provide people with the skills required to participate in their personal, family and community lives.  We offer programs for youth, teens, families, and at-risk youth.  All programs are designed to develop self-reliance and self-sufficiency, life skills, career planning and development.

Financial assistance — The J. M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need.  2,270 children, families and active older adults were positively impacted from $135,000 in scholarships in 2006.  Contact the branch where the program or service is sought.  Proof of household income is required.  Financial assistance is kept confidential and can be obtained by completing an application.

Active Older Adults — Different programs stress a three-way approach for seniors, involving health and fitness, social activities and opportunities for volunteerism.

Special Populations — Open to and serving all.
