Tony Browning
2009 Volunteer of the Year

PCY - Volunteer of the Year - Tony Browning - 2009

A Heart for the Y: "He has a joyful and giving heart, loves the members and is a blessing to the Y. While volunteering as a director on duty, members and staff know his leadership makes it a great day at the Y," says John Hicks, executive director.

A for Effort: Being a Latin and French teacher at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Tony understands the definition of exceptional. "The Y should be regarded by those in local government as an essential service within their community," he says.

Trust the Y: "I get a satisfaction contributing to the community wellness mission. Supporting the staff in meeting the goals and mission is a challenge under today's economic conditions. The Y is a large part of our family, and everyone enjoys the physical aspect of it. My daughter is a swim instructor and lifeguard, and my wife began working in membership. It is an important part of our social life."

Firm Belief: "The Y is different because it is founded in terms of Christian morals and ethics. This is important, because it creeps into everything the Y does. The role the Y plays in the community is not driven by a profit motive, but it truly embraces the needs of others."

Wife: Cindy
Children: Margaret, Bethan and Jack

Your YMCA
Through a dynamic and creative partnership, the City of Canton and the YMCA combined
resources to create a community center YMCA in Canton. The facility is located at the
intersection of Waleska Street and Riverstone Parkway overlooking Heritage Park. The
city
funded the construction of the facility through impact fees and the YMCA now programs the
facility. This exciting, new full-facility, family YMCA opened December 17, 2005.

We are proud to be a part of the growing Canton community.
Together, we are building strong kids, strong families, strong communities.

Our Mission
Your YMCA, reflecting its Judeo-Christian heritage, is an association of volunteers, members and staff, open to and serving all, providing programs and services which develop spirit, mind, and body. Financial assistance is available based on need. The YMCA actively seeks to identify and involve those in need.
