Community Development

Holiday Giving Tree for Kids is organized thru the YMCA but made possible by a network of local businesses, corporations, churches and civic groups throughout Forsyth County. Volunteers are employees, patrons and community servants sharing their time, talent and treasures to support the less fortunate in their community and express their care and concern for those surviving crisis or hardship.

Care Team volunteers strive to provide relief to struggling families with youth by providing clothing, toys, school supplies and gifts of joy during the holiday season.

Please contact our Holiday Giving Tree Hotline at 678-341-6337 for more information or to become part of a Care Team this holiday season.

Focus on Forsyth

Focus on Forsyth :   MISSION: To provide needed on-site, hands-on assistance for low-income families and seniors in need in the Forsyth County Community.

Depending on need, projects can be one or many of the following type efforts:

  • Yard work (mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, raking and bagging leaves, cleaning gutters, etc.)
  • Home maintenance (repairing floors, walls, decks, doors, painting, etc.)
  • Weatherization (replacing windows, doors, weather-stripping and/or caulking windows and/or doors, installing insulation, etc.)
  • Building wheel-chair ramps
  • Correcting minor plumbing/electrical issues.

For the most part, volunteers are required to bring their own tools for the project they will be supporting.

Examples: If you’re doing yard work then you’d be required to bring your own mower, weed-eater, blower, gas for aforementioned, gloves, safety glasses, etc. and if you were building a wheelchair ramp you would be required to bring saw(s), hammer(s), electrical cord(s), etc.

Actual materials for projects will be furnished by YMCA, however we are always receptive to and do accept in-kind donations for such materials.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES:

You can volunteer as a group, family or as an individual.

If you would like to volunteer to assist with above noted projects for low-income seniors and families in the Forsyth County community, please call Jerry Dupree at 404-312-0723 or  Email at dupreek@bellsouth.net.
