Help make your community a better place through the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA! By giving your time and/or your financial support, you join thousands of citizens who have helped the YMCA address our community's evolving needs.

Volunteers are very important to the YMCA and the community it serves.  Volunteering not only makes the Decatur-DeKalb Family YMCA a better place, but it also gives you an opportunity to touch a life, to make new friends and to personally grow.

How Can You "Create Your Own Impact"?
Here are just a few ways that you can make a difference when you give to the Partner With Youth Campaign:

  • Give a child the opportunity to develop teamwork, self-confidence and fundamental skills by playing on a recreational sports team- $100
  • Help an older adult to get out of the house, make friends and socialize by participating in group activities with other adults- $258
  • Create lifelong memories and friendships by sending a child to summer day camp for two weeks - $270
  • Strengthen a single parent family and their young children with a semester of safe after school enrichment at one of our Prime Time after school sites - $550
  • Provide one actively invested teen an opportunity to participate in a week long mission to an international location that encourages service beyond self - $1,500
  • Enroll  a child in a YMCA youth fitness program which will educe the risk of childhood obesity and diabetes - $275

Your contributions help individuals and families in our Decatur and DeKalb communities.

 In 2007 more than 4,725 people benefited from $185,000 in financial assistance.  Below are just a few of the ways your gifts made a difference in the lives of youth and families by helping us to:

  • Provided a summer day camp experience for 84 children where counselors challenge kids to reach their full potential;
  • Enrolled 220 children in a safe, positive and productive after-school program where children can focus on academic and social development;
  • Helped 1,575 youth and adults with a place to be active, build relationships and participate in YMCA sponsored events.
  • Provided 65 refugee children the opportunity to improve skill development, physical fitness and learn the value of team work through YMCA wellness programs and activities.
  • Gave 27 young adults with disabilities the opportunity for social interaction and time spent away from family and caregivers through the Happy Club,

Our Board of Directors has set a challenge goal for 2008 of $196,000.
Thank you for giving so the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA can focus on its mission by making programs more inclusive, affordable and accessible.


Happy Club Chaperones/Drivers - Twice a month on weekends we take young adults 16 years and older with developmental disabilities to activities out in the community (Braves games, bowling, movies and dinner, etc.).

Women Explorer Too - Bus Driver to chaperone active older adults to trips and out to lunch once a month.

Dances and Special Events - Help with planning, decorating and running activities for the following events -
Happy Club Halloween Dance and Christmas Dinner Dance (TBA)

Lunch and Label - Help with labeling newsletters, program guides, etc., while meeting new friends, socializing and eating lunch.

Computer Tutor - Assist beginners on basic computer skills and learn about the Internet, email, printing, and much more!  We are currently working with Senior Adults.

Beep Baseball - Baseball for the seeing, the blind and the visually impaired.  We need players who are sighted to be fielders, catchers and pitchers.

Sports Coaches - Teaching basic skills for sports recreation programs for ages 3 to 18 such as baseball, basketball and soccer.

Sports Volunteer - Assisting with field lining, field monitor and office administrator.

Adapted Aquatics - Assist in the pool with children with developmental disabilities learning to swim.

Gymnastics Assistants - Help instructors with children and set up and break down gymnastics equipment.

Play Center - Greet parents or assist with the daily care giving of children ages 3 months to 12 years.

Member Greeter - Greet members as they come to work out at the YMCA.
