Volunteer

Dedicated volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year to the Centennial Place Family YMCA. It is the commitment of these generous individuals that change the lives of people in our community, one at a time.

At the YMCA, the effects of your contributions are long lasting. Every hour spent as a YMCA volunteer brings special attention to a child, a mother in career training or member of our community. As a YMCA volunteer you have the opportunity to help your neighbors grow healthier and stronger. Whether instructing a Professional Development class, working during Parents Night Out, or spending time with a senior, the time given has lasting and positive results. The most current volunteering positions that we are offering are as a coaches for our upcoming youth sports seasons. These enrichment activities have been added to the long list of fun activities that we offer the participants in our Prime Time after-school programs, which operates Monday - Friday from 3pm - 6:30pm, except holidays.

Volunteering helps us fulfill our mission of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. In whatever capacity you help, you will become an integral part of the YMCA team working to make a difference in your community. We will provide any necessary training or instruction. Share your talents with us and the many people whose lives we have the opportunity to touch daily.

Pearl Fisher

A Sweet Tooth for It: “I’m addicted to volunteerism. I’ve been volunteering ever since I was a candy striper at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia. I volunteer for the after-school program at Stanton Elementary School. I am there just about every afternoon. Mostly, I help with homework.”

Always a Smile: “I love interacting with children. They bounce off me, and I bounce off them. I know it’s a difficult thing to try to understand, but children are the only people who really know how to be happy. I like to see them happy. I love helping them and just being with them. When they have problems I’m the one they come and talk to and they call me grandmom.”

The Best Part: “My favorite part about the YMCA is the character building. Last year we held a spelling bee, and the children had to learn to gracefully handle defeat. I was so proud of them. I can actually see the children growing.”

Interest: Poetry. Author of Rhythmic Rays, A Colorless Reality

Grandchildren: 10, along with four great-grandchildren
