What is the format for teams? Back to FAQ
The Challenge Four YMCA AR will accept solo, 2 and 3 person teams: coed, all female, and all male. The elite catagory for the race is the 3 person coed category. The 3 person teams will be eligible for award prizes. |
|
What is the percentage breakdown of race legs? Back to FAQ
Trekking/Trail running 35% +/-
Mountain Biking 25% +/-|
Canoeing 35% +/-
Mystery Events 5% +/- |
|
What will the events be like? Back to FAQ
You can expect paddling on flat water. The hiking portion will be on trails, forest service roads and some bushwhacking. You can expect the same for the riding section. Navigation will be key to a successful race. |
|
Can you recommend a beginner training program? Back to FAQ|
Yes. If you do nothing at all, run. Run 2-4 miles every other day on hills, gravel, trail and pavement (the key is to be consistent). Canoeing is typically the discipline that gets trained the least; if you don’t paddle, get out at least once with the team. Mountain Biking is the most fun discipline to train; be able to negotiate gravel roads. Orienteering is usually the scariest part of the race for a beginner. I suggest going to Red Top Mountain to do their course (you will need a compass, but navigating by features is a good tool too). In the last couple of weeks before the race try to put 2 or 3 disciplines together in one training (run 3 miles, mountain bike 5 miles and canoe 5 miles) |
|
Do all teams have to be co-ed? Back to FAQ
No. You are welcome to race as coed, all male, or an all female team. However, only 3 person co-ed teams are eligible for prizes. |
|
What certifications do I need for the 2010 C4AR? Back to FAQ
No certifications are needed |
|
What gear do I have to carry during the race? Back to FAQ
You have to carry all individual gear and team gear during the entire race. For the other gear, it is just needed during the specified leg; biking gear is only carried on the biking leg(s), etc. Individual gear – each person must carry these items. Team gear – the team must have this gear. Solo teams must carry everything.
|
I want to register online but I don't know my teammates. Can I still register? Back to FAQ
Yes. For the second or third team member sections in the registration form put the same information as you did for yourself EXCEPT, change the first name to member2, member3 on the respective page. Your team does not have to be set to register. |
|
Do I have to bring my own boat? Back to FAQ
